Emergency Roof Repair for Active Leaks

If water is coming through your roof, call or text Defend Roofing at 512-777-1751. If you reach us during business hours about an active leak, someone from Defend will be on site the same day. We find the source, stop the water with a temporary tarp or patch, and write up the permanent repair. Repairs start at $395.

When we can get there

Our hours are Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 7 PM, and Saturday, 8 AM to 6 PM. We're closed Sunday. During business hours, we call you back within 15 minutes, and an active leak gets a same-day visit. We are not an around-the-clock service. If water comes in at night or on a Sunday, use the steps below to limit the damage, then call or text us when we open.

What to do right now while you wait

  1. Put safety first. Keep people away from water near light fixtures, outlets or wiring. Shut off power to that area only if you can reach the breaker from a dry spot; otherwise call an electrician. The National Weather Service warns that water can make ceilings fall, so stay out from under any ceiling that is sagging or bulging.
  2. Contain the water inside. Set buckets or pans under drips and lay down towels. Move furniture, rugs and electronics out of the way, and cover what you can't move with plastic.
  3. Take photos and video for your records. Get the ceiling stains, wet floors, damaged belongings and anything you can see from the ground outside. Note the date and time the leak started, and save receipts for anything you buy to deal with it.
  4. Stay off the roof. A wet roof is slippery, and storm damage can hide loose or weak spots. Don't climb up to tarp it yourself. That is our job.
  5. Call or text us. Tell us where the water is showing up and when it started so the crew arrives ready.

What we do when we arrive

  1. Find the source. Water can run along the decking and framing before it shows up, so the stain on your ceiling is not always under the opening. We trace it on the roof and in the attic where we can reach.
  2. Stop the water. We put on a temporary tarp or patch to keep rain out until the permanent repair is done.
  3. Photograph everything. You get photos of what we found and what we did, for your own records.
  4. Write the repair estimate. You get a written estimate for the permanent fix. If a repair solves it, we recommend the repair. If the roof needs more than that, the photos show you why.

We work on shingle, tile (clay or concrete), metal and flat roofs. See our roof repair page for the full list of repairs we do.

What an emergency visit costs

Roof repairs start at $395. The final price depends on what caused the leak, how much of the roof is damaged and what it's made of. We go over the price with you before any work starts, and the permanent repair comes as a written estimate, so you know the number before you say yes.

Storm damage and insurance

The Texas Department of Insurance's guidance after hail or windstorms tells homeowners to prevent more damage, such as covering holes to keep rain out, to take pictures and video of the damage, and to save all receipts. TDI also notes that your policy may pay for temporary repairs, so ask your insurance company what yours covers. Our part is the roof: we inspect it, photo-document the damage, write an estimate and can meet your adjuster on site to walk through it. Claim decisions stay between you and your insurance company.
