Spicewood is an unincorporated area west of Lakeway that spans Burnet and Travis counties. Severe hail has hit elsewhere in Burnet County. On April 9, 2024, National Weather Service reports in Burnet County listed baseball-size (2.75-inch) hail 3 miles southeast of Marble Falls and 2 miles southeast of Meadowlakes, plus 2.5-inch hail 3 miles east of Marble Falls on 1431. Amateur radio relayed hail up to 2 inches between Horseshoe Bay, Cottonwood Shores and Meadowlakes.
Hail has been reported near Spicewood too. NWS Austin/San Antonio storm reports from March 31, 2013 list pea- to dime-size hail 3 miles east of Spicewood.
Hail damage rarely shows from the yard, and a bruised shingle can take months to leak. After a hail or wind event, look for:
Spicewood has no city government, so there is no city permit office. Which county's rules apply depends on which side of the county line your property sits.
On the Travis County side, the county's Development Services handles "all development outside corporate city limits" and states that any development in Travis County requires a permit. Its remodel permit page does not mention roofing, so call the Travis County permit desk to ask whether your reroof needs one.
On the Burnet County side, the county's permit page says Burnet County requires building and septic permits, with permit classes set by whether the site is in a flood hazard area. It does not mention roofs, so check with the county before work begins. If your property is in a subdivision with an HOA or deed restrictions, review those rules for roof material and color too.
Inspection comes first. We get on the roof, shoot 100+ photos and go over them with you, the good and the bad. When a repair will handle it, we recommend the repair. When replacement is the better call, the photos show you why.
We price from your roof's real size, pitch, layers and materials, and you get it in writing before work starts. Our crews clean up the jobsite when they finish. New roofs carry a workmanship warranty that lasts as long as the shingle manufacturer's warranty; repairs are not covered. The details are on our warranty page. We hold a 5.0 Google rating from 50+ reviews, posted on our reviews page.
After a storm rolls through Spicewood, we inspect your roof and photo-document any hail or wind damage in a Storm Damage Report. We write an estimate, and we can meet your adjuster on site to walk through it if you ask. Whether to file, and how the claim is decided, is between you and your insurer. If we don't find storm damage, we say so.
Spicewood is unincorporated, so there is no city permit. County rules apply instead. Travis County says any development outside city limits needs a county permit but does not list reroofing on its remodel page. Burnet County's permit page covers building and septic permits. Neither page mentions roofs, so call your county's permit office to confirm before work starts.
Spicewood spans Burnet and Travis counties, so it depends on where your lot sits. Your property tax statement shows which county you are in. Travis County properties go through Travis County Development Services. Burnet County properties go through Burnet County's permit office. Your HOA or deed restrictions, if you have them, apply on either side.
