Defend Roofing is a father-son roofing company based in Lago Vista and serving homeowners across Leander. We start every job with a free 100+ photo inspection, so you see your roof for yourself. Chris and Greyson Buster own and run Defend. We come from a third-generation roofing family, and our crews bring 20+ years of combined roofing experience to every Leander roof we work on.
Hail is the big one. On the evening of May 16, 2025, National Weather Service storm reports logged hail from 1.5 to 3 inches around Leander. One resident measured 2.75-inch hail with a ruler in the Deerbrooke neighborhood. Another sent a ruler photo of 2-inch hail in Carneros Ranch. A CoCoRaHS observer north of town reported pea to golf ball size hail for 18 minutes, with dents in cars.
That was not a one-off. On May 28, 2025, a public report put 1.75-inch hail 2 miles south-southeast of Leander. On April 15, 2021, a trained spotter reported 2-inch hail at US 183 and Crystal Falls Parkway.
Hail this size can crack shingles and bruise the mat underneath, even when nothing leaks yet. Things to check from the ground after a storm:
The City of Leander's Permits & Building Inspection page says a permit is required before starting construction on property within city limits. It then lists re-roofing as exterior work that does not need a permit, along with painting, siding and window replacement. The city also states that all contractors and subcontractors doing work in Leander must be registered.
The city notes that its list is not complete. If your project turns structural, such as replacing framing, confirm with Permits & Building Inspection before work starts.
If your home is in an HOA, check its architectural rules before you change shingle style or color. Texas Property Code Section 202.011 bars an HOA from enforcing rules that stop an owner from installing shingles designed to be wind and hail resistant, as long as they resemble the shingles allowed in the subdivision, are of equal or better quality, and match the look of nearby homes.
The inspection comes first. We get on the roof, take 100+ photos and walk you through them. If a repair solves the problem, that is what we recommend. If the roof needs replacing, the photos make the case, not a sales pitch.
Your price is based on measured size, pitch, layers and materials, and it is in writing before we start. Crews clean the property when the work is done. Every new roof carries a workmanship warranty that runs as long as the shingle manufacturer's warranty; repairs are not covered by it. See our warranty page for details. We have a 5.0 Google rating from 50+ reviews, all on our reviews page.
After a Leander hail storm, we inspect the roof and photograph every sign of damage we find. We write an estimate from that, and if you choose, we can meet your adjuster on site to walk through it. What happens with the claim is between you and your insurance company. If the roof came through fine, we say so.
Leander's permits page lists re-roofing under exterior work that does not need a permit, but it says the list is not complete. Structural work, like replacing framing, may change that, so confirm with Permits & Building Inspection. The city requires all contractors and subcontractors working in Leander to be registered. That permit rule covers property within city limits.
Call or text 512-777-1751. During business hours, Monday to Friday 7 AM to 7 PM and Saturday 8 AM to 6 PM, we call back within 15 minutes and set a time. The inspection is free, includes 100+ photos and ends with a written Integrity Report you keep, whether or not we find damage.
Full replacements start at $7,900. Your final number depends on the roof's actual scope: square footage, pitch, how many layers come off, decking condition and the shingle you pick. Repairs start at $395. After the inspection you get the price in writing, and Enhancify financing is available. For a fast replacement estimate, use our instant quote.
Under Texas Property Code Section 202.011, an HOA cannot enforce a rule that blocks shingles designed to be wind and hail resistant, if they resemble the shingles allowed in your subdivision, are of equal or better quality, and match the look of nearby homes. The shingles still have to meet those conditions, so check your HOA's architectural rules before you order.
